Homebuilder
A professional builder who specializes in custom homebuilding. As distinct from a general contractor, a homebuilder will typically have an in-house crew who will build the major components of your project like the foundation and framing, and the lead will often be directly involved in physical construction, working alongside the crew. Homebuilders may be part of a design-build firm where they work closely with architects, engineers and other specialists within a single firm, or may work as a standalone firm focused solely on building. The other major distinction is that homebuilders will typically be involved earlier in the process alongside your architect, whereas general contractors don’t tend to enter the picture until after you’ve substantially developed your architectural plans.
It’s important to note that the line between “homebuilder” and “general contractor” can be blurry. At BuildConscious, the more general term “builder” is used to refer to “the person building your home,” and the specific terms are used where appropriate.
